Auto refine return an empty volume

My 2D classification runs pretty good, but the autorefine fails, I have tried so many different initial references, but I could'nt diagnose the problem. all the parameters and references have been tested before with a different data set. but they just don't work on this one. Any suggestion?

sometime I get this error:

Error: Number of particles selected = 0; please change score threshold
From core/frealign_parameter_file.cpp:439
 

I tried manual refine and changes the score threshold to -10 but still did not get any volume.

Was this using a refinement package created from within cisTEM  - or by importing with a parameter file?

I have seen this before when all the defocus values are constant - is that true in your case?
